At my company, our SharePoint contains roughly 21,000 folders\/files combined, with some paths going as deep as 13 levels.<\/p>\n
As an intern, I was tasked with creating a flowchart that lists all folder names and filenames while showing the hierarchy\/path structure.<\/p>\n
I was advised to focus on just one root folder (out of ~30 total) for now, but even that single folder contains around 13,000 items.<\/p>\n
What management ultimately wants is a visual way to understand:<\/p>\n
– what files\/folders exist<\/p>\n
– whether things are stored in the correct location<\/p>\n
– what can be moved or deleted<\/p>\n
– how the structure could be reorganized<\/p>\n
The reorganization decisions themselves are for management to make, my task is mainly to provide a usable visual representation of the structure.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m struggling to figure out the best approach.<\/p>\n
So far I\u2019ve:<\/p>\n
– tried generating HTML visualizations with AI using file paths<\/p>\n
– considered using Microsoft Visio<\/p>\n
– considered assigning codenames\/IDs to folders with a separate legend for reference<\/p>\n
But with 13,000 items, every approach still feels too cluttered and difficult to navigate.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m also hesitant to use third-party tools\/sites because this involves company information.<\/p>\n
