{"id":33882,"date":"2025-05-15T02:28:08","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T00:28:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.graviton.at\/letterswaplibrary\/lets-build-a-list-of-beginner-friendly-datasets-for-interesting-projects\/"},"modified":"2025-05-15T02:28:08","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T00:28:08","slug":"lets-build-a-list-of-beginner-friendly-datasets-for-interesting-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.graviton.at\/letterswaplibrary\/lets-build-a-list-of-beginner-friendly-datasets-for-interesting-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Let\u2019s Build A List Of Beginner-friendly Datasets For Interesting Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- SC_OFF --><\/p>\n<div class=\"md\">\n<p>Hey folks,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m trying to move from tutorials into building actual machine learning projects, but I keep getting stuck when it comes to <em>choosing a dataset<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>Kaggle is great, but honestly, a lot of the datasets there feel too big or too messy for someone just getting started.<\/p>\n<p>So I wanted to crowdsource a list:<br \/> <strong>What are your favorite beginner-friendly datasets that are fun, small-ish, and good for learning?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m thinking of datasets that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Aren\u2019t massive (something you can play with on a laptop)<\/li>\n<li>Have a clear target or goal (classification, regression, clustering, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Are clean enough that you don\u2019t spend 90% of your time wrangling missing values<\/li>\n<li>Bonus if they\u2019re quirky, fun, or make for interesting visualizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here are a few I\u2019ve found so far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Titanic dataset<\/strong> \u2013 Predict survival (classic starter project)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Iris dataset<\/strong> \u2013 Flower classification (super clean and small)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wine quality<\/strong> \u2013 Predict wine ratings based on physicochemical properties<\/li>\n<li><strong>Spotify Songs<\/strong> \u2013 Analyze genres, moods, popularity trends<\/li>\n<li><strong>IMDb Top 250 \/ Movies dataset<\/strong> \u2013 Fun for NLP or recommendation systems<\/li>\n<li><strong>UCI ML Repository<\/strong> \u2013 Tons of smaller datasets, though the site\u2019s kind of clunky<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But I\u2019d love to discover more.
