A safe idea?<\/p>\n<p>Fat chance.<\/p>\n<p>      There was death but mostly it was televised,<br \/>\n           Not co-workers and best friends.<br \/>\n           It was only The Pretty Big One,<br \/>\n           Maybe we needed to be told.<br \/>\nLike we didn&#8217;t already know that the earth doesn&#8217;t love us.<br \/>\n                      We love it.<br \/>\n      Love it like some stupid junior-high-school-kid romance,<br \/>\n      Look back and cringe:<\/p>\n<p>           After pining, whining, and subterfuge,<br \/>\n           The object of desire is in our bed and uh-oh, now what?<br \/>\n           Hand jobs and finger-fucking.<br \/>\n           And now maybe abuse it.<br \/>\n           That would be fun.<\/p>\n<p>           When things get spooky, kids, you can always leave.<\/p>\n<p>                      You get older<br \/>\n                 And you don&#8217;t worry so much, believe me.<br \/>\n           You know how to make resolutions.<br \/>\n      You get so most of your wounds are paper cuts and stiff necks.<br \/>\nNothing a band-aid or a back rub won&#8217;t cure.<\/p>\n<p>           Or a really enormous amount of money.<\/p>\n<p>Then this.<br \/>\nSomething big unstoppable random.<br \/>\n           Positive self-image or no<br \/>\n           You are not a Problem-Solver on this level.<\/p>\n<p>But your choices are still endless.<br \/>\n                 You can loot the ComputerLand<br \/>\n                 Or you can patrol the street with a flashlight.<br \/>\n                 You can love your life or take it.<\/p>\n<p>           I learned to hug people harder.<br \/>\n      It isn&#8217;t much, but it doesn&#8217;t have to be.<br \/>\nI couldn&#8217;t explain that to my friends on the east coast<br \/>\n                 Who called in a panic then carped, as in a single voice:<br \/>\n                      Yeah, right, Go West Young Shit-For-Brains.<br \/>\n      Oh well.<br \/>\n      They have hurricanes.<\/p>\n<p>Slow fade and lapse back into band-aids and back rubs.<br \/>\n                      No need to live out there forever.<br \/>\n      The Niners just won the Super Bowl and the damage is<br \/>\n                 Oh yeah the Embarcadero Freeway is still closed<br \/>\n           Mostly an inconvenience.<br \/>\nYou take the long way &#8217;round enough you forget there was a shortcut.<\/p>\n<p>And then<br \/>\nA restaurant you always liked, in Chinatown, on Kearney<br \/>\nHenry Chung&#8217;s Hunan with the dancing chili peppers on the sign<br \/>\n                 You won&#8217;t believe the onion cakes!<br \/>\nClosed? You gotta be kidding!&#8211;due to structural damage.<br \/>\n      A little magic-marker map in the window<br \/>\n      To Henry&#8217;s bigger, colder place on Sansome<br \/>\nRemember?<br \/>\nWith the tacky-chic neon wall installation that spells out:<br \/>\n      \u00fe\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00feNo MSG\u00fe\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00cd\u00fe<\/p>\n<p>           I walk there with my sister<br \/>\n                 And she&#8217;s depressed.<br \/>\n           That little hole in the wall, she&#8217;s eaten there<br \/>\n           Every time she&#8217;s been to San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>      I want to immerse myself in Tsing Tao and onion cakes<br \/>\n                 But she makes me tell the stories.<\/p>\n<p>                 How the light caught the windows as they fell<br \/>\n           From the Kaiser Building in Oakland.<br \/>\nHow in Hunter&#8217;s Point&#8211;famous for crack and drive-by shootings<br \/>\n                      (Yo Crips!
