Hi, I was really getting frustrated by telemarketers until I found
\nthe information below. I thought others might appreciate it as well:<\/p>\n
Consumers have a right request *not* to receive telemarketing calls.
\nThe Direct Marketing Association has a “Telephone Preference Service”
\nlist. You can only get on the list by writing them. They also do not
\nacknowledge your letter (at least, they didn’t ack mine). You can
\nwrite them at<\/p>\n

Include your phone number, and tell them you do not want to receive
\ntelemarketing calls. This should probably also include the signature
\nof the person who has the phone in their name.<\/p>\n
Another thing you can do to reduce telemarketing calls is to get in
\nthe habit of never including your phone number on any warranty cards,
\ninformation requests, etc — or, if you do, indicate that you do not
\nwant the information sold or redistributed.<\/p>\n
Then when people call, if it sounds like a telemarketer (“Hello, is
\nthis Mr. Cargille?”), just ask “Who’s calling, please?” When they
\nidentify themselves and start to go into their pitch, just interrupt and
\ntell them you prefer not to receive telemarketing calls. Also ask
\nthem to please take you off their list.<\/p>\n
This has markedly decreased the number of nuisance calls we receive,
\nand now I can brush them off without my blood pressure going up.<\/p>\n
