THE EYE DETECTOR<\/p>\n
This is not a trick or a gimmick. It is
\na valuable tool that can be of great
\nassistance in your everyday life. You
\ncan use it for entertainment purposes
\nhowever.<\/p>\n
Researchers have discovered that if you
\nshow people photographs of normal
\neveryday items, the pupils of their eyes
\nremain pretty much the same. When shown
\nsexually oriented photos of the opposite
\nsex, their pupils would dilate
\ndramatically. Further research showed
\nthat whenever a volunteer was shown
\nsomething that they wanted very much,
\nthe pupils would again dilate.
\nCon-versely, when people are telling a
\nblatant lie, the same thing happens.<\/p>\n
You have to be watching very closely to
\nsee this happen, but a suddenly dilated
\npupil can tell you a lot.<\/p>\n
How can you use this information? I hope
\nexplanation is not necessary as far as
\ndetecting lies go. You can of course
\nuse this for negotiations, making
\npurchases, forming partnerships etc.
\nWhile it can make you more careful and
\nis valuable, nevertheless, this is not
\nfoolproof. You should not accuse anyone
\nof lying unless you are positive. This
\nis just a tool. It is not 100%. Use it
\nas an indicator only.<\/p>\n
It can also be handy in relationships.
\nThe next time you are flirting with
\nsomeone, you might make mildly
\nsuggestive comments and study the eyes,
\nwatching for a sudden flare of the
\npupils. Again, be careful and tactful.
\nYou don’t want to be sued for
\nharassment.<\/p>\n
For entertainment purposes, you might
\nuse something like the following. Pick
\na volunteer and seat them in front of
\nyou. Take four blank pieces of paper or
\ncards and draw a big dollar sign on one
\nof them and leave the other three blank,
\nor write something benign on them like
\n“pen,” “pencil” and “paper clip.” Tell
\nyour subject that the dollar sign
\nrepresents one million dollars that you
\nhave just given them. Tell them to
\nvisualize the one thing in their life
\nthat they want more than anything.
\nSomething that they would be able to
\npurchase with that million dollars.
\nMake sure that they have something real
\nin mind. Tell them to visualize the
\ncolor, to really see it in their mind’s
\neye. Picture it clearly.<\/p>\n
Then you instruct them to pretend that
\nthe dollar sign represents the million
\nand it will be theirs to buy their
\ndream, unless. . . you can tell which
\ncard the dollar sign is written on.<\/p>\n
Have someone else shuffle the cards or
\npaper, mixing them up. When they are
\nhanded back to your subject, they should
\nbe concealed from you. If you are
\nsitting at a table, your volunteer may
\nsimply hold them under the table out of
\nyour line of sight. If you are not at a
\ntable, use a towel or tray to obstruct
\nyour vision, hiding the cards from your
\nsight. You MUST still be able to see
\nyour subject’s eyes. Tell them to look
\nat the cards one at a time and to then
\nlook at you before going on to the next
\none. You may have to ask them to look
\nat one or two cards again. When they
\nlook up, you are of course studying
\ntheir pupils. When they look up and you
\nnotice that their pupils are dilated,
\nyou know which card the dollar sign is
\non. You then amaze your audience by
\ntelling them that the dollar sign is on
\nthe third card they looked at (or
\nwhichever).<\/p>\n
If there is light behind you or the room
\nis somewhat bright, their pupils might
\nbecome somewhat smaller. This is a
\ntelltale because it tells you that the
\npupils were larger. They will dilate
\nagain as the eyes adjust.<\/p>\n
When they are looking at the blank or
\nbenign cards, there will be little or no
\nchange in the eyes. The card with the
\ndollar sign will produce a much more
\nnoticeable response.<\/p>\n
If you think that your subject is going
\nto try and trick you, you might appoint
\na member of your audience to act as a
\nsort of watchdog to see that your
\ninstructions are carried out. Or to
\nwatch for any cheating on either of your
\nparts.<\/p>\n
Practice this a few times with friends
\nor family before trying it with an
\naudience. People will think that you
\ncan read minds if this is done
\ncorrectly.<\/p>\n
I am not going to attempt to tell you
\nall of the possibilities that this
\nconcept has. Law enforcement agencies,
\ncustoms officers, lawyers, personnel
\nofficers etc. all have their own uses
\nfor this principle. If you just
\nremember it and use it a few times, you
\nwill be amazed at the information this
\nwill give you. It can also give you
\nquite a reputation.<\/p>\n
